ATLANTIC
ATLANTIC
The current ATLANTIC is a replica of the renowned schooner ATLANTIC, originally commissioned by Wilson Marshall, a member of the New York Yacht Club, and launched in 1903. Following his extensive experience in owning, restoring, and rebuilding several iconic yachts, such as Thendara, Aile Blanche, Borkumriff, Zaca a te Moana, and more recently the Herreshoff racing schooner Eleonora, Dutch yachtsman Ed Kastelein set out to create his crowning achievement: the recreation of the magnificent 3-mast schooner ATLANTIC.
The project was undoubtedly his most daring endeavor. With an impressive deck length of 185 feet (56 meters), she holds the distinction of being the largest classic racing schooner ever reconstructed. Ed Kastelein was determined in preserving her historical authenticity, ensuring every detail of her original design was meticulously replicated. Her sail plan mirrors that of her triumphant performance in the 1905 Transatlantic Race, a feat that cemented her legendary status in yachting history. Most importantly, she has been restored to her former splendor, captivating onlookers wherever the wind guides her.
The size of Atlantic is truly awe-inspiring, stretching an impressive 56 meters above the deck. Her elegant silhouette and extended overhangs enhance her beauty, while her waterline length of 42m and slender beam suggest unparalleled sailing speed. Her masts rise 45m above the waterline, holding a remarkable 1,750m² of sail are, more than two and a half times the sail area of the already formidable J-Class yachts.
